release day plans, what's everyone doing for snacks and setup?
November 19 is basically a holiday at this point. I keep seeing that stat about 1.5 million people planning to call in sick, and it tracks. The wait has been so long that everyone's treating launch day like a personal event now.
I'm going solo marathon style. No group thing for me, I don't want anyone talking over cutscenes. My setup is already locked in: blackout curtains, phone on do not disturb, and a cooler next to the couch so I don't have to get up. Snacks are the real planning though. I'm stocking up on those little frozen pizza rolls, a bag of sour gummy worms, and a case of that cheap citrus soda. Nothing fancy, just stuff I can eat one handed while driving around Leonida.
For drinks I'm keeping it simple. Water too, because a 12 hour session with only soda will wreck me. Maybe one energy drink around hour six when the eyes start going.
Ritual wise, I'm not doing anything too elaborate. I'll probably put on the Vice City soundtrack while I'm setting up, just to get in the mood. Then once the game boots, headphones on and the outside world is gone. My wife already knows the deal. She's taking the kids to her sister's for the weekend, which sounds harsh but it's honestly the only way I'll get through the first few hours without someone asking for a snack or needing help with homework.
For parents, I get the fear. Kids will absolutely kill the vibe if they're around. My advice is bribe them early. Buy a new game or a movie they've been asking for, set them up in another room, and pray. Or just accept that you'll be playing in 20 minute chunks between bedtime and breakfast.
I'm not sharing my snacks with anyone, that's the rule.
