ex-rockstar devs are making a silent hill style horror and the rough build already looks promising

Ex-Rockstar dev's chilling new psychological horror could be the next Silent Hill – even in a rough design build

Saw the GamesRadar writeup on Vertpaint's Ritual Tides demo from Gamescom. The team is made up of ex-Rockstar devs, and the article says even the rough design build they showed has people comparing it to Silent Hill. That's a big claim for a game that wasn't even the demo they planned to bring.

The writer mentions getting swept up by it despite the rough state. I always find that interesting with horror games. If the atmosphere works before the polish is there, the final version could be something special. Ex-Rockstar people know how to build worlds that feel lived in, even when they're falling apart. That skill set translates really well to psychological horror.

I'm not saying this is GTA 6 news, but it does make me think about what Rockstar's own horror elements could look like in Vice City. The swamps, the motels, the backroads at night. If former devs are making Silent Hill style games, maybe some of that DNA is still in the studio too.

Would you check out Ritual Tides based on the ex-Rockstar pedigree, or are you keeping your horror fix separate from your GTA hype?

Pedigree gets my attention, but I'll wait for the finished build before judging. Plenty of ex-Rockstar staff worked on tools and systems, not mission design. Still, the studio has done dread well before. The Aberdeen Pig Farm chain in Red Dead 2 was effectively a horror mission. If Ritual Tides lands, it goes on my completion list after GTA 6 hits 100 percent.
