Preview: I Didn't Expect This Alice in Wonderland Roguelite to Be This Deep

Saw a preview for CRYMELIGHT over on Push Square and the release date made me laugh. November 5th. That's two weeks before GTA 6 drops, and the preview itself calls it one of the few games brave enough to sit in the GTA 6 exclusion zone.

It's an Alice in Wonderland roguelite. The person writing the preview is apparently a huge Alice fan, so they were always going to give it a shot. The headline says they didn't expect it to be this deep, which is a decent sign for a smaller game trying to get attention right before Rockstar eats the entire industry.

I don't know much about CRYMELIGHT beyond that. Wonderland setting, roguelite structure, PS5 release. That's about it. But launching on November 5th is either genius or completely insane. Most publishers cleared out the whole month. Rockstar basically owns November 19th and everything around it. A little indie roguelite might actually pick up some sales from people who want something to play while they wait, or it'll get completely buried the second the GTA 6 reviews start dropping.

I respect the confidence either way. I'll probably grab it to kill time before the 19th, assuming I'm not still refreshing the Rockstar site every hour.

Brave little game. My playtime is basically two hours after the kids go to bed, so a roguelite I can run in short bursts before the 19th actually makes sense for me. That's the niche here. Once GTA lands though, everything else on the hard drive is a paperweight until spring.

Launching two weeks before GTA takes guts. Respect. This is the kind of game you grab now and never touch again after the 19th, like every 2004 release that wasn't San Andreas.
