the ai partner having your back is the first thing i want to test
The previews sold me on the partner system way more than I expected. I keep thinking about how Rockstar usually handles AI companions and this sounds like a real step up. If I'm running around as Lucia and some random guy starts a fight, Jason is supposed to jump in and have her back. Same thing the other way. That kind of reactivity is exactly what I've wanted from a GTA companion since forever.
I don't know how deep it goes yet. Maybe it only triggers in certain situations or maybe the partner has a whole set of responses based on what's happening. But the fact that previews are highlighting it makes me think Rockstar actually built it as a core part of the game, not just a scripted moment in a mission.
My first playthrough is going to be all about keeping both characters together as much as the game allows. I want to see how often Jason steps in, whether he pulls out a weapon on his own, if he reacts differently depending on who started the fight. That kind of stuff is way more interesting to me than just swapping between them constantly. I'll save the solo runs for a second playthrough where I can see how each character handles things on their own.
I also wonder if the partner AI changes based on your relationship or story choices. Like if you've been ignoring one character, does the other still rush in to help? Or does that loyalty build over time? No idea if that's how it works, but it would be a cool layer on top of the basic backup mechanic.
Either way, I'm already planning my first run around this. How many of you are planning to stick together for most of the first run instead of swapping constantly?
