gta online made billions but gta 6 still feels like a single player game first and i'm so relieved

I remember when GTA V came out and then Online just took over everything. No story DLC, no single player expansions, just endless updates for the online mode. A lot of us figured Rockstar had changed for good. That the campaign would just be a tutorial for the next Online.

But everything we've seen from GTA 6 so far says otherwise. The amount of detail going into Lucia and Jason, the missions, the world itself, the little interactions between NPCs. It's not just a backdrop for multiplayer. It feels like a proper Rockstar story again.

I'm not saying Online won't be massive. It will be. But the single player looks like the main event, not the side dish. And that's honestly the best news I've heard about this game in years.

I know some people will say "well they haven't shown Online yet so of course it looks single player focused." But the way they're talking about the campaign, the way the trailers are cut, the way the world is built around these two characters. It all points to Rockstar still caring about the story first.

Maybe the backlash from the GTA V era actually got through to them. Or maybe they just realized that a great single player game makes the Online mode even more valuable. Either way, I'm not complaining.

I've been burned before. I remember waiting for that story DLC that never came. But this time feels different. The extended look we got last week, the way they showed off the world and the characters, it didn't feel like a multiplayer ad. It felt like a Rockstar game.

So yeah, I think we can finally put that old fear to rest. Rockstar hasn't abandoned single player. They just took their time getting back to it.

I felt this in the music before anything else! Trailer one opening with Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road" over those Leonida shots is a story-first needle drop. You don't score a multiplayer ad like that. And trailer two rolling "Hot Together" by the Pointer Sisters while Lucia and Jason are just domestic, grabbing groceries, being a couple? That's pure Flash FM energy, real Vice City mood. They're building a vibe around two people, and music is how you do that.

Online will come and it'll be enormous, fine, whatever. But a real campaign means the radio has to carry actual feeling again instead of background noise while you grind crates. West Coast Classics forever, but I want stations that mean something to the story this time. If Lucia and Jason get a full arc, the soundtrack gets one too. That's the part I'm grabbing on day one!

Count me with the burned. Got V at launch in 2013, finished the story twice, and my total time in Online is maybe five hours. Partly that's on me. By the time the kids were in bed I had about an hour a night, and I wasn't spending it getting launched off a highway by a 12 year old on a rocket bike.

So the campaign being the main event again suits me fine. It's the part I'll actually finish. Eventually. Red Dead 2 took me eight months.

grabbing groceries, being a couple

That sold me more than any mission footage did. Nobody scores a grocery run like that when the story's an afterthought.
