psa: skip the reviews if you want any surprises left
We're close enough now that review videos are going to start dropping before you know it. I know the wait is brutal and every new bit of footage feels like oxygen, but if you're someone who wants to discover Vice City and the rest of Leonida on your own, you might want to start muting some channels now.
IGN's review especially. They tend to show a lot of stuff in their video reviews, and once you see a new area or a weapon or some mechanic in a YouTube thumbnail, you can't unsee it. The first time you stumble into Port Gellhorn or figure out how a certain system works, that's a moment you only get once. Watching someone else do it first kind of numbs it.
I'm not saying reviews are bad. If you're on the fence or just want to know about performance, fine. But the problem is those videos don't just talk about the game, they show it. And then the algorithm decides you want more, and suddenly you're getting "all secrets in X area" videos before you've even left the first island.
I've done this dance with RDR2 and GTA 5. The stuff I saw early didn't ruin the games, but it did make certain discoveries feel less special. I still remember seeing a certain part of the map in a review and then when I got there in my own playthrough it was just... yeah, I already saw this.
So my plan is to go dark on GTA 6 content around the time reviews hit. No YouTube, no Twitter, no Reddit threads with spoiler tags I'll inevitably click. Maybe just check Metacritic text scores or something and leave it at that. Then after my first playthrough I'll come back and compare notes.
Who else is planning to go full blackout until November 19, and how are you actually going to pull it off?
