3 years from the first trailer to launch, and I still can't believe it

I was just thinking about this. In December it'll be exactly 3 years since that first GTA 6 trailer dropped. December 2023. I remember watching it live, losing my mind over Vice City, that Tom Petty song, the whole vibe. And now we're still not playing it.

What's even crazier is Rockstar first confirmed the next GTA was in development back in February 2022. By the time November 19th rolls around, that's almost 5 years since they officially said "yeah, we're working on it." At the time I thought maybe 2024 or early 2025. Nobody expected it to stretch this far.

I was still in college when that trailer hit. Since then I've graduated, moved twice, started a career, got married. Whole life chapters have come and gone while waiting for this game. I know I'm not the only one. Some of you probably had kids, switched jobs, went through breakups, all of it. And the whole time GTA 6 was just this distant thing on the horizon.

Now we're actually close. Pre-orders are live, the countdown is ticking, and it's starting to feel real. But also kind of surreal. Like I've been waiting so long that my brain can't process that it's actually happening.

What's changed in your life since that first trailer dropped?

i wasn't even into gta when that first trailer hit lol. i was still playing cozy games and had no clue. only started the series last year when a friend made me play vice city stories. now i'm hype but broke. that $79.99 standard edition is gonna hurt. ngl the wait feels shorter for me since i had to catch up on the lore first. anyone else going in mostly fresh

that Tom Petty song

Absolute needle drop perfection with serious Flash FM energy! If the full game hits that mood, I'm camping on every station!

Upfront cost always stings, but run the break-even. Three years since that first trailer is over a thousand days. $79.99 split across the wait is roughly eight cents a day. Once you're actually in Leonida, clock two hundred hours and you're under forty cents an hour. My fully loaded nightclub safe pulls more than that in passive while I'm AFK. The Ultimate at $99.99 is only a twenty dollar jump for whatever bundled goodies they throw in. Do your own profit-per-hour math.

Three years from trailer to launch. In 2002 we'd get a blurry magazine scan and the game would be on shelves six months later. Whole different world...

I was already way past college when that December 2023 drop hit, but it still feels like a different lifetime. Changed jobs, moved, watched this place turn into a ghost town then explode again. It's been brutal.

Absolute needle drop perfection

Nailed it. That Petty track hit like Flash FM on a fresh 2004 save. If the Vintage Vice City Pack captures even half that energy, we're golden.

$79.99 hurts, yeah. But I dropped full price on San Andreas without blinking back then. I'd do it again for this.

I've already sketched my 100% completion path for Leonida. This wait rivals Vice City's "The Driver" for pure endurance.
