the extended look got me weirdly emotional about life

Watched the extended look last night and I'm still processing it. I went in expecting to geek out over car handling and map size, and instead I ended up sitting there thinking about my kids and what I'm doing with my life. Weird thing to say about a GTA presentation, I know.

It's not that I wasn't hyped for the game. I was. But something about seeing what Rockstar put together made me think about the kind of mark they're leaving. Millions of people are going to play this thing, talk about it for years, get inspired by it. That's a wild thing to create. It made me want to build something that matters too, even if it's on a much smaller scale.

I'm a family man. Wife, kids, comfortable enough. But every now and then I get this itch that I haven't done everything I'm capable of yet. Not unhappy, just restless. The extended look turned that itch into a full on fire. I've been working on a little arcade shooter for mobile, aiming for a late September release, and after watching this I want to push it even further. Dream a little bigger.

As for the presentation itself, the Midnight Club style driving scene was a highlight for me. The club scene too. But that final scene, man. That's the one that got me. The visuals, the atmosphere, the music, the dialogue. It all came together in a way where I stopped analyzing the tech and just felt it. That doesn't happen often.

So yeah, I came for the gameplay and left with an existential crisis about family, dreams, and what I want to leave behind. In a good way, I think.

Did anyone else get weirdly introspective after watching it, or am I just getting old?

You're not getting old, man. Or maybe we both are. I watched it with my son, he was hyped about the cars, and I was sitting there thinking about time passing and all that. Good luck with the arcade shooter, September is closer than you think. Put it out even small. That's a mark too.
