the backlash cycle is getting exhausting

I swear every time we get a crumb of official info, the same crowd comes out of the woodwork. Pre-orders open and suddenly it's all "no disc version, this is the end of gaming" and "Rockstar's too quiet, something must be wrong." Like, we're four months from launch and people are already writing eulogies because we haven't seen a third trailer yet.

I get it, the physical media thing stings for collectors. And yeah, the silence between Trailer 2 and now has been brutal. But we've been through this cycle with every Rockstar release since GTA 5. The radio silence, the panic, the "delayed to next year" rumors that never pan out. Then the game drops and suddenly everyone forgets they were sharpening pitchforks a week earlier.

What I'm wondering is if this time will actually be different. The pre-order backlash felt louder than usual, probably because the digital-only push is real and people are rightfully annoyed. But once November 19th hits and we're all cruising through Leonida, is anyone really going to care that they didn't get a disc? Or will the next wave of complaints just shift to something else — online monetization, day one patches, whatever?

Seems like the cycle never really ends, it just finds a new target.

Trailer 2 dropped May 2025. That's fourteen months without a third trailer. Pre-orders opened June 25 with two SKUs at $79.99 and $99.99. The noise rotates. The date is still November 19.

Once we're actually in Leonida and staring at the skyline from Vice City out toward the Keys, nobody's going to remember the disc drama. The map will eat the conversation alive. (Just like Los Santos made everyone forget the pre-launch panic.) Give it a week and complaints will shift to whatever's missing from the Grassrivers or how Ambrosia stacks up against Sandy Shores.

This. So much this. Back in 2002 we had a magazine spread and a prayer, then the game dropped and nobody remembered the box art drama. Same cycle. Once you're cruising Leonida in November the disc complaints vanish.
