cars actually feel fast now, that supercar jacking clip sold me

Rewatched that supercar jacking clip a few times and the acceleration looks legit. In GTA 5 even the fastest cars felt like they were fighting the game engine, like there was a governor on the top end. This time the car actually pulls hard off the line and keeps going.

Engine notes are a huge step up too. You can hear the difference between a V8 and a V12 now, not one generic loop pitched up or down. The downshifts sound aggressive, the turbo spool is there if you listen.

I'm pretty sure the SSD is the reason. Old consoles had to stream assets from a slow hard drive, so Rockstar capped how fast the world could load around you. That meant top speed was limited to what the drive could handle. Now with the PS5 and Series X, the world streams fast enough that they can let cars actually reach their potential. The SSD thing matters for more than graphics, it changes how the game feels to play.

I keep thinking about flying down Ocean Drive at night with the neon blurring past. Or hitting the highway out to Port Gellhorn and just holding the throttle. This is the first GTA where I might actually enjoy driving for the sake of driving.

What's the first car you're stealing when you get into Vice City?

flying down Ocean Drive at night

Now that's a mood! I'm already planning the soundtrack. Give me a redline V12, the windows down, and Flash FM bleeding through the speakers. Rockstar finally let the cars breathe, and I'm here for it. That night drive vibe is going to hit different when the engine actually screams!
