Saw this on Push Square and figured it was worth a thread. Nintendo's doing a 40th anniversary Direct for Zelda tomorrow, and the headline is already teasing that Sony's Zelda movie might make an appearance. The actual article is a bit lighter on details, it mainly confirms we'll see footage of the Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2.

Some people are expecting that remake to launch in November, which would put it right up against GTA 6. That's a bold move if true. November 19 is already locked in for us, and now Nintendo might be trying to grab some of that same window. I get it, holiday season and all, but going head to head with Rockstar's first new GTA in over a decade feels like a choice.

I'm not saying Zelda fans won't show up. They will. Ocarina is one of those games people have been begging to see remade for years. But the overlap between someone buying a Switch 2 for Zelda and someone buying a PS5 or Series X for GTA 6 isn't a perfect circle. Plenty of people will get both. Plenty won't.

What I'm actually curious about is whether the Zelda movie shows up at all. Push Square's headline makes it sound likely, but the writeup doesn't go into it. If Sony is involved with a Zelda movie, that's a weird timeline. Nintendo letting Sony near their IP for a film is not something I had on my bingo card.

Anyway, tomorrow's Direct is at least something to watch while we wait for Rockstar to drop the next GTA 6 trailer or whatever they're cooking. I'll probably tune in just to see if the movie rumor is real. If it is, cool. If not, the Ocarina remake footage will still be fun to pick apart.
