Resident Evil Movie Trailer On PlayStation’s YouTube Page Is Full Of People Asking Sony To Change Course On Discs

Scrolling through the comments on that new Resident Evil movie trailer PlayStation uploaded and it's basically a support group for people mad about physical games dying. Top comments are all stuff like "he's transporting the last physical game copy in existence" and "I cannot wait to get the physical version of this." Someone even worked in a typewriter save room joke. It's pretty funny but also kinda sad.

Sony's killing off game discs in 2028 and the backlash is real. A petition got over 220,000 signatures but nobody expects them to actually reverse course. The business case is there, digital sales have cratered physical, but it still stings.

And we're already living that future with GTA 6. Rockstar's charging $80 and the "physical" version is just a box with a download code inside. No disc. In Japan that code expires after 170 days too, which is a whole other mess. So even if you buy the box, you don't really own anything.

I get that discs are clunky and slow compared to an SSD, but there's something about having a shelf full of games that a digital library just doesn't replace. Plus the whole preservation angle. When the servers go down in 2045, that GTA 6 code isn't gonna do much.

Are you guys planning to grab the physical box just for the shelf, or is it all digital from here on out?
