gta 6 might beat clair obscur's game awards record but i wouldn't put money on it

Saw GamesRadar kicking around whether GTA 6 could top Clair Obscur's record at the Game Awards this year. The headline says maybe, but the writer's not putting money on it.

Which is fair. GTA 6 drops November 19, so it's out in time for the show. Rockstar always cleans up when they release, but the Game Awards crowd can be weird about open world crime games. Red Dead 2 lost to God of War back in 2018, and that still stings.

Clair Obscur apparently set some kind of record for nominations or wins, I didn't dig into the numbers. The article just says GTA 6 could beat it, but the author wouldn't bet on it. I get that. A lot of voters might see GTA 6 as too mainstream or too violent, even if it's the biggest launch of the year.

Still, if the game is as good as the trailers look, it'll be hard to ignore. Lucia and Jason's story could finally get Rockstar a narrative win. But Game of the Year? Who knows. The show loves a surprise.

I'm not holding my breath for a sweep. Rockstar doesn't need awards anyway. The sales will speak for themselves.
