GTA 6 Is 148% Ahead Of This Other Popular AAA Game So Far

Sensor Tower dropped some preorder comparisons and the gap between GTA 6 and the next biggest game is getting hard to wrap my head around. They looked at digital preorders in the US for a bunch of major releases from the last six years, MW2 2022, Diablo 4, Hogwarts Legacy, Spider-Man 2. GTA 6 is pacing 148% ahead of MW2 over the same stretch before launch. MW2 was the previous high water mark for digital preorders in that group.

Their tracker has GTA 6 at over 6.45 million copies already, which works out to more than $630 million before the game even ships. They also think the bulk of preorders will hit in the final week, and total prepurchases could land around 25 million. That would be over $2 billion in revenue before November 19. I know preorders don't equal sales forever, but those are wild numbers for a game that still hasn't had a real gameplay blowout beyond the extended look.

Platform split is about what you'd expect. 74% PS5 and 26% Xbox Series X|S. PS5 has sold way more consoles so that's not shocking. Xbox apparently says they're happy with their GTA 6 preorder numbers too, so no doom posting needed there.

GameSpot also floats a PC version possibly landing early 2027, but Rockstar still hasn't announced anything official on that front. I'll believe it when I see a preorder page.

If the final week spike actually happens like Sensor Tower expects, launch day is going to be absolute chaos. I'm not even mad about it.
