Insider Gaming is reporting that GTA 6 will need 210 GB of storage. That's a massive number, even for a game this ambitious.

I know Rockstar has been pushing the hardware hard with Leonida and everything they've shown, but 210 GB still caught me off guard. For context, that's close to double what some of the biggest current gen games take up. My PS5's internal drive is already stretched thin with GTA Online, a couple of sports games, and whatever else I forgot to delete.

If this is the actual install size at launch, a lot of us are going to need to make some hard choices. I've got a 2 TB NVMe in my PS5, and even that starts to feel small when one game eats a fifth of it. Add in the day one patch, and who knows where it lands.

Preloading is going to be interesting too. That's a lot of data to pull down before November 19. I'm lucky enough to have decent internet, but my buddy on a slower connection is probably going to need to start the download days in advance. The pre-order bonus stuff won't help the size either, though that's just a drop in the bucket compared to the base game.

I keep thinking about what Rockstar is packing into those 210 GB. Leonida is supposed to be huge, and the trailers have shown dense city streets and detailed environments. That kind of asset quality doesn't come cheap on storage. Voice lines for every random NPC conversation, radio stations, mission audio, textures for every building in Vice City and the Keys. It adds up fast.

My only hope is that the install is optimized enough that we're not downloading the whole thing again with a big post launch update. Rockstar has gotten better about that, but launch weeks are always messy.

Either way, I'm clearing space now. Not waiting until the last minute and then panic deleting screenshots I actually wanted to keep. 210 GB is the price of admission for the biggest game of the year, and honestly I'll pay it.
