3.97 million peak viewers for the extended look, biggest gaming stream of 2026 so far

Saw the numbers this morning and had to post. 3.97 million people watching reaction streams at the same time. That's insane.

Eurogamer says the extended look pulled in 3,970,738 peak viewers across all the livestreaming platforms. Twitch, Netflix, YouTube, all of it. Biggest gaming stream of 2026 so far, and we're already in late August. Nothing else has come close.

I was one of those viewers. My Netflix stream froze twice during the first few minutes, then I switched to a Twitch reaction channel and it was fine. The chat was moving so fast you couldn't read anything. Just walls of "FINALLY" and "HOLY" scrolling by.

What gets me is that this was just the reaction streams. That number doesn't even count people watching the official upload directly on Rockstar's site or the YouTube premiere after the fact. The actual total audience is probably way higher. And this is for a gameplay reveal, not even the launch.

I remember when the first trailer dropped in 2023 and everyone lost their minds. This feels bigger. Maybe because we actually saw the game running, not just a cinematic. People have been waiting 13 years for this. The hype is real.

Also kind of funny that Netflix got overwhelmed again. They had the exclusive first window and their servers just couldn't handle it. Same thing happened with the live boxing match earlier this year. You'd think they'd be ready for GTA 6 by now.

Anyway, 3.97 million. That's a record for 2026 so far. Anyone else surprised it wasn't higher, or does this feel about right for a 13 year wait?

I saw those on a Twitch clip later. Couldn't read a thing. I'm more surprised Netflix keeps getting caught off guard though. You had two years to prepare for a GTA 6 stream and you still choked. Embarrassing.

Anyway I'll watch the official upload tonight when the house is quiet. That's the real luxury these days. Uninterrupted singleplayer time with no chat flying by.
