gta 6 is officially in for the game awards 2026

Insider Gaming just confirmed GTA 6 is eligible for The Game Awards 2026. Not exactly a shock given the November 19 release date, but it's nice to have it on the record. Some people were wondering if the timing would mess with eligibility or if Rockstar would somehow keep it out of the running.

I've seen a few threads asking whether the game can even be nominated since reviews are dropping right before launch and the show is usually early December. The cutoff rules have always been a little fuzzy, but this settles it. GTA 6 is in for this year's show.

I'm not going to pretend it won't dominate the conversation. A new Rockstar open world game releasing a month before the awards, with the hype this thing has, it's basically a lock for multiple categories. GOTY, best action adventure, probably best narrative if the story lands. The real question is whether Rockstar sends anyone to accept or just drops a pre-recorded video like they did for some GTA Online stuff.

My take is it wins GOTY unless something catastrophic happens with the launch. The only thing that could slow it down is voters not having enough time to finish it before ballots are due. But let's be real, half the panel will vote for it based on the first ten hours alone.
