activision exec calls gta 6 and mw4 the two biggest games of the year, zelda catching strays
Saw this VGC piece and had to share. An Activision exec was asked about the biggest games this year and he basically said GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4 are the two heavyweights. He even threw in a 'no offense to Zelda' which is funny because nobody asked about Zelda.
MW4 is out next week, so Activision has every reason to hype their own thing. But this guy is out here putting GTA 6 right next to it. That's not something you see every day from a publisher. Usually they'd pretend their game is the only one that matters. Instead we get an exec admitting GTA 6 is on that same tier.
And he's not wrong. GTA 6 is still a little over a month out and the hype is already ridiculous. Meanwhile MW4 is a yearly franchise that always does numbers. Zelda is big too but it's not moving consoles the way these two will.
The timing is interesting though. MW4 gets its launch window all to itself for a few weeks, then GTA 6 drops November 19 and probably swallows the entire industry for the rest of the year. Activision knows that. Maybe that's why they're being realistic about it.
What do you think, does it feel weird to see an Activision exec hyping GTA 6 as much as his own game?
