Indie dev says GTA 6 fans don't buy 'nerdy niche' games, so other studios can relax

Saw this quote from Tomas Sala, the creator of The Falconeer, and it got me thinking. He basically said that the GTA 6 audience isn't the same crowd that goes out and buys smaller, niche indie titles. So all those devs worrying about getting crushed by Rockstar's launch window might be stressing over nothing.
His point was pretty blunt: "I'm pretty sure that's not the GTA audience." He's not wrong, right? The average person who pre-orders GTA 6 for $80 or $100 probably isn't also browsing Steam for a weird aerial combat game about a bird. Those are two completely different worlds.
I've seen so many threads over the years where people panic that Rockstar's next game will vacuum up all the money and attention. But honestly, the overlap feels tiny. My cousin who only plays 2K and Call of Duty is hyped for GTA 6. He's never heard of The Falconeer. He's not going to suddenly stop buying indie games because he never started.
Sala's take is refreshing. He's not asking anyone to move their release date. He's just saying the GTA crowd is its own thing. If you're making a small, experimental game, your buyers are probably still going to be there. They might even be looking for something different while they wait for November 19.
Do you think GTA 6 will actually hurt smaller games, or is this dev right that the audiences barely overlap?
