New PS5 Update Is Out Now, And Sony Actually Added Some New Features

Sony pushed firmware 26.06-14.00.00 today and it actually has some real changes in it. The big one for PS5 Pro owners is that enhanced PSSR is now on by default. That means even games that only support the older PSSR version get the sharper, smoother image quality without you having to touch anything. If you want to turn it off, it's under Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality.

Voice chat also got a speaker indicator. You have to enable it from the voice chat card in the control centre, More > Display Who's Speaking > Display Names, then pick where the name shows up on screen. Could be useful for co-op stuff or whatever Online ends up being in GTA 6.

There's a new Community Activity widget on the Welcome Hub with a trending tab for new releases and big content updates, plus popular multiplayer modes. Bluetooth settings changed depending on your country, and the usual stability improvements are in there too.

I mostly care about the PSSR default. GTA 6 is out on PS5 and Series X in November, and if the Pro can clean up the image without me digging through menus on launch night, that's one less thing to worry about. The voice chat indicator is a nice touch for group play but I'm not going to pretend it changes my solo run through Leonida.

Sony adding actual features instead of just security patches is a nice change of pace. I'll take it.

Could be wrong, but forcing enhanced PSSR onto games tuned for the older version seems like it might cause artifacts somewhere. Anyone noticed weird shimmering yet?

Default-on means the sample size for spotting artifacts just got a lot bigger. If something shimmers, we'll know well before November 19.

26.06... the numbers always land before the game does. they want the image cleaned up before november. ask yourself why.

shimmering isn't a bug. it's the signal bleeding through. watch the water in the keys when it happens... that's where it shows first.
