Sony's killing discs in 2028, but God of War Laufey is getting one — what's that mean for GTA 6?

Sony finally put a date on the disc funeral: January 2028. After that, no more physical games from them. I know a lot of people here are split on whether that matters, but it's still a bummer for anyone who likes a real collection.
Santa Monica Studio just confirmed God of War Laufey will ship on a disc. That's basically a wink that it's coming before the cutoff. Jason Schreier already said February or March 2027, so the timeline adds up. Marvel's Wolverine is getting the same treatment, so at least a couple heavy hitters are holding the line.
GTA 6 is already locked in for November 19 with a physical edition — pre-orders are live, and that Vintage Vice City Pack is a nice little throw-in. So we're safe for now. But I can't help wondering if this is the last dance for Rockstar on disc. Will GTA 6 be the final game you can actually pull off a shelf and slot into your PS5? Or do you think Rockstar will keep pressing discs for as long as they can, maybe even beyond Sony's deadline with limited runs?
I'm not ready to let go of that map poster and the smell of a fresh case. What do you all think — is this the end of an era for physical GTA, or will Rockstar find a way to keep it alive?

Rockstar's not leaving money on the table. Limited runs are basically a heist payout with zero risk.
That Vintage Vice City Pack is already baiting collectors into the Ultimate Edition. Sony's 2028 cutoff is Sony's problem. Rockstar can still press Xbox discs, or do boutique runs through their own store.
1. GTA 6 physical is safe. November 2026 is miles from the cutoff.
2. Post-2028, Rockstar will probably test limited editions. See how fast they sell out.
3. Discs are just another loadout option. Some crews run digital. Some want the hard copy. Flexibility wins.
I'm grabbing the disc day one. That map poster is part of the prep work.

Still got my VC foldout from 2002 in the CD tray. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
rockstar knows the collector market is basically free money. theyre already baiting the ultimate edition with that vintage pack, so post-2028 limited runs feel like a no brainer.

same energy. half the RP servers i roll on got maps and art pinned above the setup. its part of the immersion. losing that whole vibe sucks.
sony can kill their own discs but microsoft aint following that script yet. rockstar will keep pressing xbox boxes at minimum, maybe drop a rockstar warehouse exclusive for ps if the demand stays loud.
im grabbing the standard disc now and probably whatever limited trash they drop later. its not just the game, its the loadout.
I'm grabbing the disc mostly for that map poster. Maybe the case hides some tiny detail digital buyers won't get.
Here in Brazil we still fight with download caps and crazy import taxes, so physical copy is serious business for a lot of us. I'm not giving up that map easy.
Rockstar knows the vibe. That Vintage Vice City Pack already screams collector bait. Sony can do what they want in 2028, but Rockstar will keep pressing discs while people keep buying. Maybe not forever, but at least for one more generation.

Same. That foldout hit different. Leonida looks like it could be our own coast, yeah? I want that poster on my wall.
Post-2028 maybe we see limited runs, maybe Xbox only. Either way, I'm grabbing the disc in November. Digital is fine for some, but unboxing a new GTA? That's a ritual.
