Ex-Rockstar animator says he wouldn't be shocked if GTA 6 slips to 2027 over one broken mission

Former Rockstar dev “wouldn’t be shocked at all” if GTA 6 is delayed another six months

Mike York, who used to animate at Rockstar, put out a video where he basically said a delay wouldn't surprise him. Not because the game is in trouble, but because Rockstar's standards are that insane.

His point was that if there's a lingering bug that breaks even one major mission, they'd push the whole thing six months to get it right. He's seen it happen before. The studio would rather eat a delay than ship something that doesn't meet the bar they set with RDR2 and GTA V.

I know Strauss Zelnick just doubled down on November 19th last week, and pre-orders are already live. But hearing this from someone who actually worked there hits different. It's not some random Twitter account screaming "delay" for engagement. York was in the trenches.

He also mentioned that the team is probably crunching hard right now, which, yeah, we all figured. The last six months before launch are always brutal. If a game-breaking bug pops up in September, they'd have to make a call. And Rockstar's call has historically been to delay rather than patch it later.

I'm still betting on November 19th. The marketing machine is too far along, and they've already got pre-orders and retail partnerships locked in. But I won't pretend this didn't make me a little nervous. A six-month slip would put us in spring 2027, and that's a long time to stare at a countdown that suddenly resets.

York lived it. One broken mission and the train stops. Pre-orders don't press discs. Zelnick can promise November all he wants. I'm braced for a slip. Hope I'm wrong. That's the only sane way to track this release.

Correct. Pre-orders opened June 25 across two SKUs ($79.99, $99.99). Two trailers exist, no third. November 19 is fifteen weeks away. I'm logging gold master milestones, not press statements.

I'm less jittery about the calendar and more curious what a slip would mean for the map. Rockstar doesn't bolt on new regions after launch. If they push the date, that's extra months to tighten draw distances up north around Mount Kalaga or fill in the backroads between Port Gellhorn and the Grassrivers.

Los Santos felt massive because every corner had purpose. I want that same density down south in the Leonida Keys, not just a pretty highway.

pre-orders don't press discs

Truth. A pressed disc with a half-finished Grassrivers is worse than a delayed one with real topography. I'll wait.
