brian's ferris wheel speech to jason has me hoping gta 6's story is more than just fun

I've watched that ferris wheel scene from the extended look more times than I care to admit. Brian's little talk with Jason is maybe 20 seconds long but it's stuck with me in a way most GTA cutscenes don't.

GTA IV had moments like that. Niko actually reflected on his life and the violence, and it made the story feel heavier. GTA V tried with Michael's 'you can't run no more' speech, but the game never really followed through on it. The ending where you kill Michael doesn't count, that's just a player choice, not a narrative payoff.

What gets me is that the extended look also ends with Cal narrating over a montage, and that whole sequence has a different tone than anything Rockstar has shown for GTA 6 so far. The tone is different from the usual flashy action and jokes. There's something quieter underneath.

I've always been more worried about the story than the map or the gameplay. GTA stories are usually entertaining, sure, but they rarely make me feel anything real. RDR2 proved Rockstar can do that when they want to. If Brian's speech and Cal's narration are hints of what's coming, maybe GTA 6 is aiming for that same kind of impact.

Do you think Rockstar is actually going for a more serious story this time, or is this just trailer editing making a small moment seem bigger than it is?

I'm with you on the quieter tone, but speaking as a music person, the score does a lot of that heavy lifting! Drop the right song under a montage, Emotion 98.3 style, and anything feels profound. Oldest trailer trick there is. RDR2's quiet moments landed because the whole game committed to them though, score included. If GTA 6 keeps that energy past the marketing, I'll be thrilled!

IV is still my only 100% replay done purely for the story. If the ferris wheel tone carries into actual mission design, I'll gladly run the full completion again.

a ferris wheel... it just goes in circles. that's the whole symbol. maybe rockstar's finally ready to break the loop...

Score plus slow shots equals instant depth. V's marketing sold Michael's regret hard too, then the game spent most of its runtime on yoga missions and celebrity jokes.

RDR2 is the one thing keeping me quiet here. They proved they can hold a somber tone for 60 hours when they actually care. If the ferris wheel stuff is real and not a 20 second edit, great, I hope I'm wrong about this one. But I'll believe it when a mission slows down and doesn't cut to an explosion after one reflective line. Trailers lie by omission. The game itself will tell us in November.
