what i think the gta 6 controller layout looks like on foot
Spent way too long pausing the extended look and comparing it to RDR2's standard FPS preset. I think I've got a rough idea of the on foot controls now.
Rob Nelson's comments plus the footage line up pretty well with what Rockstar did in RDR2. The face buttons seem to handle the usual stuff, and the shoulder buttons look like they're doing more work than in GTA V. I'm not 100% on every mapping, but the general shape feels familiar if you've played RDR2 recently.
For vehicles we know less. The only thing I've picked up is L1 for aim and R1 for shoot when you're in a car. That's a shift from the trigger based setup in GTA V, and I'm curious if it'll feel natural or if Rockstar will let us swap it.
The part I can't figure out is how you command NPCs or your partner. We haven't seen any threatening or ordering during robberies in the footage. RDR2 used Triangle when you were locked on or aiming at someone, so maybe that carries over. I was hoping for a command wheel for Lucia and Jason, but it might just be a single button context thing.
Do you think Rockstar will keep the RDR2 style single button commands or finally give us a proper partner command wheel?

I'd put it at about 80 percent that we keep the single context button. Rockstar iterates; they don't tear out systems that work. RDR2 ran entire train robberies on one prompt. My concern from a mission design angle is robberies with Lucia and Jason active at once. If partner commands stay contextual, teamwork risks feeling scripted instead of player driven.

That's my worry too, but for a dumber reason. Context buttons live or die on priority logic, and RDR2's got sloppy whenever two interactables overlapped. I've had Arthur greet the horse he was standing next to instead of the guy I meant to talk to. Now picture that in a robbery with Lucia, Jason, a crowd of NPCs, and a register all sitting in prompt range at once. Which one wins?
Maybe their intent detection has improved, or maybe lock-on narrows it enough that it never comes up. Could be wrong. A wheel at least makes the choice explicit instead of the game guessing for you.
Also, has anyone seen whether that L1/R1 car setup is remappable? GTA V muscle memory is going to fight me hard on that one.
