Was rewatching the extended look the other night and something clicked. We're heading back to Vice City, and both new protagonists have backgrounds that feel awfully familiar if you played the old Vice City games.

Lucia starts the story coming out of prison, and there's a Liberty City connection mentioned in the trailers. That's basically how Tommy Vercetti's story kicks off. He gets out of jail in Liberty City and gets sent down to Vice City. Then you've got Jason, who spent time in the army and ended up mixed up with drug dealers. Vic Vance was ex-military too, and he got dragged into the drug trade in Vice City Stories.

I'm not saying Lucia is a female Tommy or Jason is a Vic clone. Rockstar is clearly doing their own thing with these characters. But having both of those specific backstories in the same game, set in the same city as those older titles, feels like more than a coincidence.

One of those parallels on its own wouldn't make me think twice. Tommy's prison start is a pretty common trope. But both of them together, in Vice City, right as we're going back there for the first time in forever? That's the kind of thing Rockstar loves to do as a quiet nod for long time fans.

Could just be me reading too much into it. But I'd bet there's an Easter egg or two in there referencing the old games. Maybe a mission name, a safehouse location, something small like that. Not expecting a full retread of Vice City or Vice City Stories, just a little wink.

Either way, it's a fun thought while we wait for November. The more connections to the old games, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
