rockstar says jason and lucia's romance is optional but the trailers tell a different story
I keep seeing people talk about how you can play Jason and Lucia as just partners or whatever. Rockstar made it sound optional. But after sitting with the trailers, I don't buy it. The whole emotional core of this game seems built on them being together.
The way they're framed in the trailers, the way they look at each other, the way the story beats are cut together. It all points to a romantic duo. Two criminals sharing a job, sure, but there's clearly more going on.
If you play them as strictly business, I think you're going to miss what Rockstar is actually going for. The tension, the trust, the fallout. All of that lands differently when there's history between them. Playing it cold feels like watching a movie with the sound off. You get the plot but not the point.
I know some people want the freedom to define the relationship themselves. That's fair. But Rockstar has never really been about player choice in story. GTA V let you switch between three guys who barely tolerated each other and that worked because the story was built around that friction. Here, the trailers keep showing Jason and Lucia as a unit. A couple. Maybe not in every scene, but enough that it feels like the intended read.
I'm not saying the game will force you into it. But if you want the proper experience, the emotional impact, the messages Rockstar is trying to get across, you probably need to keep them together.
Do you think Rockstar actually expects most players to keep them as a couple, or is the optional route going to feel just as valid?
