theory: you'll have to pick between jason and lucia at the end
Been thinking about how Rockstar might handle the ending with two protagonists. GTA V gave us three choices but they all kind of funneled into one obvious best option. With Jason and Lucia, the dynamic is different. A couple. That opens up some darker possibilities.
I've seen a few people float this and I keep coming back to it. What if the final mission makes you choose which one survives? Or at least which one gets the bad outcome.
One version: Jason takes the fall. Dies or gets locked up so Lucia can walk. Maybe he volunteers, maybe she turns on him. That would be brutal but fits the Bonnie and Clyde tension they've been hinting at.
Reverse it and Lucia is the one sacrificed. Jason saves her or stabs her in the back. Same structure, different gut punch.
Then there's the both go down ending. Blaze of glory, no survivors. It sounds cinematic but I don't know if Rockstar would do that. Free roam after the credits is a big deal for most players. Killing both protagonists would either lock you out or force some weird post-game workaround.
The happy ending where they ride off with the heist money feels too clean. I'd almost be annoyed if that's the only option. Rockstar usually gives you at least one messy choice.
What I actually expect is something closer to GTA IV or RDR2. Not necessarily a binary pick, but consequences that make one ending feel earned and the others feel like compromises. Maybe the choice isn't who dies, but who gets to keep the money or who takes the blame publicly.
Still, the idea of a direct Jason or Lucia choice has been stuck in my head since the second trailer. The way their relationship is set up, there's a weight there. If Rockstar leans into it, the ending could hit harder than anything they've done.
I don't think they'll do a full both die ending though. Too many people would riot about losing free roam. More likely one of them survives no matter what, and the question is what kind of life they're left with.

GTA V's choice was toothless since Deathwish kept everyone alive and Blaine County didn't change one street after. If Rockstar actually kills one of them, I keep coming back to how RDR2 solved the free roam problem: swap protagonists, then open up the map (all of New Austin, southwest across the river, suddenly unlocked). Leonida's big enough to pull that off. One survivor cruising the Keys alone post-credits would be appropriately bleak.
MapNerd's RDR2 comparison is the strongest case for one of them dying. The John Marston epilogue proved Rockstar can kill a protagonist and still hand you the map afterward, Leonida's Keys included. I'd put a real death ending at maybe 40% now, up from the 10% I'd have given it before RDR2 existed.
My reference point is GTA IV. Deal and Revenge both cost Niko someone, and neither felt like a wrong answer the way GTA V's options did next to Deathwish. If Rockstar learned from that backlash, every ending should lose something. That's why I lean toward the compromise version: one walks free but burned, the other plays the epilogue from a cell or a grave.
Selfish completionist note: I'll play every branch, but there had better be a mission select so 100% doesn't mean three full campaigns.
