What if our GTA Online characters get a prison backstory and move to Leonida?

So I've been grinding GTA Online for years, and with GTA 6 finally on the horizon, I can't help but wonder what happens to all that time. Not the money or cars, obviously. But the character. The rank. Does Rockstar just pretend it never happened?

Someone on Reddit threw out a couple ideas that got me thinking. First, maybe tiered rewards based on your GTA Online level or achievements. Hit rank 500? Here's a unique jacket. Completed Criminal Mastermind? Enjoy a weapon skin in GTA 6 Online. Nothing that breaks the economy, just a little nod to the veterans.

The second idea was way more interesting: what if we could actually port our character over? Not with their stuff, but the character itself. The backstory would be that they got busted in Los Santos, did hard time, lost everything. Now they're out and heading to Leonida for a fresh start. You'd still begin from zero, but your character's face, maybe some scars or tattoos, carry over. It's a clean slate with a built-in history, and it'd feel like a real continuation.

I know it's far-fetched. Rockstar hasn't even officially announced GTA 6 Online yet, let alone how it'll connect to the current one. But they did do something similar with the returning player bonuses when GTA 5 moved to PS4 and Xbox One, so there's a tiny precedent. Mostly this is just fun banter while we wait for any real news.

Would you rather have a clean break, or some kind of legacy reward for all those hours in Los Santos?

The prison backstory is neat but I don't need my Online mute following me to Leonida. Back in 2004 we just got a new city and a new face. Starting from zero in San Andreas after Vice City felt right...

Give me a clean break. A jacket or some scars for hitting rank 500 is fine. I don't want Los Santos baggage in Vice City. Let Lucia and Jason do their thing without my old character haunting the lobby.

Though I get why people want

the character itself
to carry over. It'd feel personal. Rockstar botched those returning player bonuses anyway. I'm not holding my breath for anything fancy. Less is more.
