Went back through the extended look, the minimap has way more going on than I thought

Rewatched the Extended Look after my last post about the minimap being hard to read. People were right about the contrast, but there's a lot more going on with it than I caught the first time.

3D buildings everywhere

Safehouses and mission spots get the 3D treatment, but so do random structures. A toll plaza shows up on the map. Wooden structures with stairs near Grassrivers too. So the map is rendering way more of the world than GTA V ever did.

Light and dark mode

The footage switches between a light and dark minimap depending on the clip. The dark one feels like GTA V's map but with the new rectangular shape and no health/armor ring around it. Just darker overall.

Partner indicators

When Jason and Lucia are together, the other one can show up as a green dot. I spotted it during the kayaking bit. Might only happen in certain missions, not sure yet.

Police chase contrast is rough

During a chase the map gets this red and blue tint that basically washes everything out. You can only see your own pointer in the middle. If you have point to point navigation on, it's just a pink line and your pointer following it. That's where the map becomes almost unusable. Hopefully they tone that down before launch.

iFruit nav

The navigation looks like it's mimicking Android Auto or CarPlay. The minimap has an iFruit logo in the top left. So in universe your phone is feeding the map to the car or something. Nice touch.

I'm more impressed than annoyed now. The contrast thing is real but the rest of the minimap has a lot of small details that make it feel alive.

The iFruit feeding the map to the car is a nice touch, like Waze everywhere here in Brazil. Hope they fix that chase contrast though.
