A heist where you print your own cash, but the longer you stay the harder it gets
Saw a post on the GTA6 subreddit that got me thinking about what kind of heists we might see in Online 2. The idea: a central bank where you can literally print money during the heist. You're not just grabbing a fixed pile of cash — you're running the presses and stacking bills in real time.
The catch? The longer you stay, the more heat you draw. Waves of cops or security get tougher, better armed, and more aggressive. You can bail anytime with whatever you've printed, but if you wipe, you lose it all. No partial payout, no consolation prize. Just a big fat zero and a wasted setup.
The OP threw out some rough numbers: one wave lasting 10 minutes could net you 150K, so about 900K an hour if you can survive. That's not crazy when you compare it to some of the current GTA Online businesses that can push a million per hour with the right setup. But the difference here is the risk is front and center — you're not just waiting on a timer, you're actively fighting to keep the money flowing.
I could see this working as a dynamic event or a full-blown heist in Vice City's financial district. Maybe you have to manage the printers, keep them from jamming, while your crew holds off NOOSE teams. The tension of deciding "one more wave or we bail" would be insane, especially if the payout per minute ramps up the longer you stay. Greed versus survival — that's peak GTA.
With the Kortz Center Heist dropping next week in current GTA Online, Rockstar's clearly still experimenting with heist formats. I'm hoping they bring that same energy to GTA 6's online, and a hold-out printer heist would be a perfect fit for the over-the-top Florida vibe. Imagine doing this in a hurricane or with a news chopper circling overhead, broadcasting your every move. The chaos would be legendary.
Anyway, I'm all for heists that don't have a hard cap on the payout. Let the players decide how much they're willing to risk. That's the kind of sandbox freedom that made the original heists so memorable.

The printer jamming could be cool if it's physics-based, though I might be wrong about how Rockstar actually handles those interactions. I'm wondering if the money stacks might have collision boxes that clip through walls or desync when server lag hits.
Also, if you disconnect during wave seven, maybe you just lose everything? That seems like it could be frustrating if it's a client issue and not your fault.
disconnect during wave seven
on rp servers thats just a combat log ticket waiting to happen. admins would eat that up.
I barely have forty minutes most nights. An uncapped heist sounds like something my nephew would love.
disconnect during wave seven
If Rockstar makes that a total loss I'm out. One lag spike and my whole evening is dust.
my whole evening is dust
me when the dining hall wifi drops during a quiz. i'd never survive this heist lol
I like the concept but BigMike is right about the lag. Here in Brazil we deal with internet hiccup all the time, so losing everything because of one spike would drive me crazy. It would kill the mode for players outside US and Europe too.
my whole evening is dust
Exactly. Maybe Rockstar could add checkpoint every two waves or something. You keep half the printed cash if you wipe after wave four, maybe less if you disconnect. That way the risk is still there but your night isn't totally wasted.
The core idea is great though. Running the printers while your crew holds the door sounds chaotic in a good way. I just hope they don't make it too punishing for people with slower connections. Nobody wants to do setup missions for nothing.
