phone app theory: the crypto scam app will be the new stock market

The social feed parody in the trailers is a nice touch, but I'm more interested in what other apps will be on Jason and Lucia's phones. A dating app seems obvious for Vice City's nightlife vibe, maybe for side activities or recruiting crew. A food delivery app could be a fun way to trigger random encounters. But the one I'm betting on as a full gameplay system is a crypto scam app.

Think about it. GTA V had the stock market, but it was undercooked outside of Lester's missions. A fake crypto exchange would let Rockstar go all in on the satire of pump and dump schemes, rug pulls, and influencer shills. I can see a system where you invest in meme coins, then complete missions to manipulate their value before cashing out. Maybe you even get to launch your own coin as part of a heist setup. The completionist in me wants a whole portfolio to max out, with percentage returns tied to mission choices. That's the kind of layered system that made the assassination missions so replayable. I'm hoping they don't just leave it as a background joke.

crypto app would be a goldmine for RP server economies if rockstar actually lets us trade player to player. gta v's stock market was basically singleplayer only and every RP server had to mod in some janky economy plugin that half the playerbase didnt trust.

if they build it into the phone as a real multiplayer system though, thats where it gets spicy. imagine running pump and dumps with your crew or washing dirty money through meme coins. RP servers already try this with trash ui menus. official tools would slap.

my worry is they lock it behind story beats and dont let freemode players touch the market. if its just another lester wrapper then who cares. give us the app and let servers decide how deep it goes.

The stock market in V looked like a real system in previews. We got Lester's menu. A crypto app will be three phone screens and a mission wrapper. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong. History says don't hold your breath.
