dre and bae could be playable if lucia or jason dies, and i kinda buy it

Saw a post on the sub about how this whole thing might end and it got me thinking about Dre and Bae. The poster pointed out these two have been hanging around the main characters in promo but nobody really talks about them. That feels deliberate.

The theory is they're being set up as backup protagonists if Lucia or Jason dies. Rockstar has done the multiple endings thing before, and with all the Bonnie and Clyde talk, a true tragic ending where one of them doesn't make it is on the table. If that happens, you'd need someone to keep playing as. Dre has a similar build to Jason, Bae has a similar build to Lucia. Clothes and animations wouldn't need much reworking. That's the kind of practical detail that makes a theory feel more plausible than just wishful thinking.

I'm not fully sold on Rockstar actually killing one of the mains. They pulled the "save them both" option in GTA 5 and I'd bet they do something similar here. But having Dre and Bae ready as playable swaps is a smart hedge. Even if they never become playable, giving them more screen time late game could be the foreshadowing the poster is talking about.

What I keep coming back to is how little promo focus they've gotten. Rockstar loves hiding important characters in plain sight. If these two were just filler, they wouldn't have similar body types to the leads. That's not an accident.

I think we'll get a choice at the end, and depending on what you pick, you might end up controlling Dre or Bae for the final stretch or even post-game. That would be a wild way to handle a death without fully losing the gameplay loop. Either way, I'm keeping an eye on every scene those two show up in from now on.

ok the body type thing is a stretch, rockstar reuses rigs on tons of npcs. the promo silence on those two is the actually interesting part though
