Pay N Spray in GTA 6 better not be the same old magic cop eraser

Been replaying GTA IV and the Pay N Spray there is still hilarious. You roll in with a bright orange Infernus, three stars, helicopter spotlight on you, and 30 seconds later you roll out in a slightly different shade of orange and the cops just shrug. It's a series staple but man, it's never made a lick of sense.

I'm not saying remove it. Obviously it'll be in the game. But with how much Rockstar is pushing realism this time around, I can't see them keeping the exact same mechanic. In real life, changing the paint does nothing if the plates are still the same. Cops have plate scanners, helicopters, dash cams. They'd just run the tag and pull you over the second you left the garage.

What I'm hoping for is something a little more involved. Maybe you have to swap plates too, or the wanted level doesn't fully drop unless you ditch the car entirely and switch vehicles. Could even be a cooldown where the cops are still suspicious if they spot the same model and color combo too soon. I don't need a full chop shop simulator, but a little friction would make losing the heat feel earned instead of like a cheat code.

Rockstar's been quiet on the small details like this, but I'd be surprised if they haven't thought about it. The whole vibe of the trailers is a living, breathing world where the cops are smarter. If the Pay N Spray still works like it's 2001, it's gonna stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm hoping they don't give us 100% instant clearance. Three Leaf Clover already proved heat erasure kills tension without some friction.

Exactly. And that's why I'm worried they'll half-measure it. The May trailer showed cops coordinating instead of magicking away. But realism is usually the first thing smoothed out for "accessibility" before launch. Happens every cycle.

My guess is they add a plate swap animation and call it evolved. You still walk out clean. Marketing gets to claim it's redesigned. Most players barely notice.

Rockstar's quiet because the mechanic's probably unchanged. They'd be blasting "new immersive evasion system" everywhere if they'd actually rebuilt it. Silence says more than a press release ever could.

NoHypeZone called it.

Weak. If I'm ghosting the heat I need a widebody and fresh tints. Change the whole SILHOUETTE. Cops don't clock paint they clock body lines. Make me earn that clean slate.

If they make evasion more step-based I can already see the edge cases.

plate swap animation

Seems simple but what if the garage hitbox bugs out while you're wanted? Could trap you in a softlock loop. Cops might even spot the "new" car through walls. More systems means more glitch surface area, and that might not be a bad thing.
