the opening mission npc behavior has me thinking every playthrough will feel unique

Watching the extended look again and that opening sequence has been living in my head rent free. Up until Raymond shows up in the apartment, the whole thing plays from the gameplay perspective. It's not a cutscene. So what if the mission is mostly character objectives, with only a few scripted lines that trigger off certain events? The rest could shake out differently every time.

The lookout yelling "yooo, crackheads!" when Jason and Lucia approach might be one of a dozen possible lines. In RDR2 you could have short back and forths with NPCs, but you'd burn through the three or so responses fast and then hear the same phrases on repeat. Rockstar has said they're not using generative AI, but they've had years and basically unlimited budget to record way more dialogue. It's not crazy to think they went deep on NPC chatter this time.

Then you have the two guys at the door. They're S4S, their objective is guarding the building. They stop Jason and Lucia because they don't recognize them. J and L explain why they're there and drop some kind of password or a name of someone their gang works with. That flips the guards from hostile to letting them through.

The guy and girl at the elevator don't know them either, but they're way calmer than the door guys. Makes sense, because J and L must have had a legit reason to get past the front. J and L give the elevator guy two passwords or names, and then he tells the girl to press the button. Same pattern at the apartment door. At every step the S4S NPCs are skeptical of strangers in the building and deny knowing anything, until J and L hand over a password or sometimes two. That changes their behavior.

If Rockstar actually built these NPCs around objectives and passcode rules, and expanded the dialogue decision trees, then every playthrough of that opening could feel genuinely different. Not just different dialogue, different reactions and pacing. That's the kind of thing that would make me replay missions over and over just to see what changes. I'm already planning a second run for launch week to compare.
