I really hope GTA 6 doesn't make us work for another shady government agent

Rockstar's got this thing with secret agents. I was replaying San Andreas and it hit me how much of the late game is just CJ doing Mike Toreno's dirty work. And yeah, Toreno gets Sweet out of prison, so the whole plot hinges on that relationship.

Then GTA IV. U.L. Paper guy. Niko's basically a puppet for some spook who holds all the cards. Same deal in V, the FIB stuff with Steve Haines takes over the story for a huge chunk. Even Red Dead Redemption, the entire game is John being strung along by Edgar Ross. The cancelled Trevor DLC was gonna be more of the same, him going full agent.

I get why they keep going back to it. It's a convenient way to force the protagonist into wild situations and give them access to military hardware. But man, it's starting to feel like a crutch. RDR2 was such a breath of fresh air because the gang's own internal drama drove everything. No government handler pulling strings, just Dutch's ego and Micah's scheming.

With Lucia and Jason, I'm hoping they stay small time. Or at least if there's some bigger conspiracy, it doesn't turn into another "now you work for us" plot. The Bonnie and Clyde vibe from the trailers feels like it could be its own thing. Two people against the world, not two people taking orders from some guy in a suit.

I'll play the hell out of it either way, but I'd love to see Rockstar trust a different kind of story structure this time.

Yeah I'm tired of the handler plot too. Let Lucia and Jason run their own scams. No SUITS telling them what to drive. Just two thieves boosting slammed imports and outrunning the cops. Let the story breathe.

The handler angle is played out. I'm more interested in how Vice PD and Leonida Highway Patrol respond when Lucia and Jason are just independent operators. No federal backdoor clearing your wanted level. No military hardware drops.

No SUITS telling them what to drive.

Exactly. Local departments carrying distinct loadouts. Patrol units running actual pursuit doctrine. Interagency rivalry between city cops and the county sheriff's office when a chase crosses jurisdictions. That stuff writes itself.

Rockstar's best police gameplay comes from organic heat. Not scripted fed missions. Keep the protagonists small time. Let the wanted system breathe for once.

I might be wrong, but keeping it small time seems like it'd force the driving physics to actually matter. Scripted military drops always break the flow. Raw handling through Vice City traffic might make police chases feel heavier and more unpredictable. Has anyone noticed if the trailer hints at that kind of weight?

I hope they keep Lucia and Jason doing their own thing. The Keys and Vice City feel like perfect place for small time jobs. Don't need some guy in suit giving orders. Let the police heat come natural. Raw chases through Grassrivers sound way better than some federal drop.

I'm with you on keeping it local. The Leonida Keys have enough choke points and backwater channels to make evasion feel organic without some spook handing you a Buzzard on a rooftop. In Los Santos the FIB strand always felt like it was happening in a different game from the street-level stuff in Strawberry or Davis.

Give me Lucia and Jason scrambling through Grassrivers with Vice PD on their tail, slipping across county lines where the sheriff's office picks up the chase. Or ducking into the mangroves out near Port Gellhorn where patrol boats can't follow. The map's built for it. (Imagine the dead ends around Mount Kalaga after a messy getaway.)

Exactly. Let the geography be the handler. Natural borders, bridge checkpoints, swampy stretches. Way more interesting than another agency safehouse cutscene.
