GTA IV's random object throwing is back and I'm not seeing enough excitement about what that actually means for messing around between missions.

Rob Nelson showed TGG a drink can getting tossed into a bin, and the South Park clip had food being thrown while eating. Then there's the dog poop. So it's not just one scripted interaction, the system seems like it covers a bunch of junk lying around.

What I really want to know is whether you can free aim these throws. The South Park clip might have auto targeted the dog poop guy, but there weren't any HUD prompts in the corner so I'm holding out hope. If you can just lob a half eaten sandwich at a pedestrian across the street, that opens up a ton of little stealth and distraction options.

It's basically the Hitman thing where any object works as a lure or a way to mess with NPCs. In Hitman a knife kills, a hammer knocks out, a muffin just confuses someone. GTA doing that with whatever's on the ground instead of dedicated distraction items sounds way more fun to me. You're not picking "throw rock" from a wheel, you're looking at the world and grabbing whatever's actually there.

I know it's a small feature compared to the 600k animations or the map size or whatever. But small systems like this are what keep an open world alive after hundreds of hours. GTA IV had it and people still remember chucking bricks at cars a decade later.

I'd rather have that than another scripted side activity.
