restricted weapon loadouts per mission could make gta 6 feel way more grounded
Caught this in the recent footage and it's been bugging me. A few story missions look like they start you with nothing but a concealed pistol, and you only get better guns by grabbing them off enemies or as the mission hands them to you. The Boobie Ike drug pickup, the Raul getaway vehicle job, the VIP protection mission, all of them seem to follow that pattern.
Compared to older GTAs where you can pull an RPG out of thin air mid-mission, this feels way more dynamic. You actually have to work with what the mission gives you instead of always having your full arsenal on tap. I know some people are going to hate that because they want total freedom, but I think it'll make shootouts feel more tense. GTA has always been arcadey with weapons, so this is a real shift.
I'm into it if Rockstar balances it right. Restricting loadouts per mission could make each one feel more distinct instead of just blasting through with the same loadout every time. The older games let you cheese almost any encounter once you had enough money for the good stuff. This forces you to adapt on the fly and actually use the weapons the mission gives you, which is closer to how RDR2 handled some story beats.
My only worry is if they overdo it and every mission starts with a pistol and a dream. That could get old fast. But from what we've seen, it looks like they're picking specific missions where it makes narrative sense, not applying it across the board. That's the right call.
