I think Rockstar is leaning more serious with GTA 6's story, but not RDR2 levels of sad
After sitting with both trailers for a while, I'm getting a pretty strong sense that the tone is gonna be more grounded than GTA V. The first trailer especially had that dramatic, almost melancholic vibe with Lucia in prison and the shots of Vice City at sunset. Trailer 2 had more action but still felt like a crime drama, not a full-on comedy.
We've got two protagonists in a relationship this time, and that alone sets up a different kind of story. The Bonnie and Clyde thing means there's gonna be tension, maybe some betrayal, definitely emotional moments. I don't think it'll hit as hard as RDR2 did, I mean that ending wrecked people. But Rockstar clearly saw how much that resonated compared to GTA V's story, which a lot of fans found forgettable or too scattered with three characters.
There's been talk about a chapter structure similar to RDR2, and if that's true, it would make sense for a more focused narrative. GTA V's three-protagonist setup was fun for chaos but made it hard to get attached to anyone. Lucia and Jason seem like they'll have a tighter arc, maybe with some humor sprinkled in from side characters and the world itself. Vice City is inherently a little ridiculous, so I doubt it'll be completely grim.
I'm hoping for a balance. Give me a story I actually care about, but don't make me cry in the final act. What do you guys think, are we getting a tearjerker or just a solid crime drama with some laughs?

melancholic vibe with Lucia in prison
Right? That's begging for a Kavinsky needle drop on some lonely midnight drive through the Keys! Give me a station with that old Radio Mirror Park sadness but updated for Leonida. I don't need tears, just a perfect soundtrack!
melancholic vibe with Lucia in prison
this. so much this.
but here's the thing. Vice City in 2002 had Tommy basically getting screwed over and building an empire from nothing. it wasn't all jokes. San Andreas in 2004 had CJ burying his mom and the whole Grove Street arc. Rockstar already knew how to mix that weight with chaos back then.
GTA V felt like it lost that formula. too scattered. three guys just doing bits. if Lucia and Jason are actually written like a real duo with something to lose, that's closer to what they were doing in 2002-2004 anyway. the world can still be ridiculous. you need that contrast.
I don't need another RDR2 gut punch. just give me characters I remember six months after I finish.
