limited weapon carry is exactly what GTA 6 needs, replaying 5 makes it obvious

Been running through GTA 5 again while I wait out the last couple weeks and the thing that keeps bugging me is how little thought goes into what you're carrying. You've got every gun in the game on your back at all times and ammo for days. There's no decision to make. Just scroll the wheel until something with a big clip shows up.

So hearing that GTA 6 is tightening the weapon carry limit is genuinely one of the more interesting things I've read. It changes how you approach a job. You actually have to plan around what you're walking into instead of having a magic bag of 50 guns.

the loadout question

With the gun customization they've talked about being as deep as it is, a restricted carry limit means you're building a kit for a specific situation. That's a real gameplay loop. Do you take something quiet, something loud, something for range? You can't just have all of it.

And the two protagonist thing gets way more interesting. In 5 I basically never thought about who was carrying what because it didn't matter. Both characters had everything. If the limit is real, splitting weapons between Jason and Lucia becomes an actual tactical choice instead of a cosmetic one.

it'll actually force the player to think about the guns you need for that specific situation

That's the whole appeal for me. GTA has always been a power fantasy and I'm not asking them to turn it into a survival game, but a little friction goes a long way. Restraint makes the guns feel like gear instead of toys.

the ammo part matters too

5 was so generous with ammo that you never sweated a firefight. Half the time I was spraying just because I could. Tighten the carry limit and the ammo economy and suddenly every encounter has a little weight to it.

I'm not expecting hardcore realism here. It's still GTA. But if the loadout screen actually means something this time around, that's a quiet upgrade I'll take over any flashy feature. Two weeks out and this is the stuff I'm thinking about.
