Cal reaches for the beer then pulls back right as the extended look fades

Went back through the Extended Look frame by frame because the ending kept nagging me. In the very last shot, Cal has his arm stretched toward Lucia, clearly reaching for the beer she's holding. Then right as the image fades out, his hand pulls back without grabbing it. Like he changes his mind at the last second or something gets cut off.

I know Rockstar polishes the hell out of these trailers, so part of me thinks it's not a mistake. Maybe it's a deliberate character beat. Cal wants the beer, then decides against it for whatever reason, and the fade hides the rest of the motion. Could be something in the actual cinematic that we don't see because the shot ends there. Or it could just be an animation loop that didn't finish cleanly when they cut the footage.

The fact that it's the very last frame makes it hard to tell. If it was mid trailer I'd write it off as a minor glitch, but ending on it feels intentional somehow. Rockstar doesn't usually leave loose ends like that unless they want us to notice.

What do you all think, sloppy cut or a tiny character moment they slipped into the fade out?

ok so i rewound it like five times after reading this and yeah, the pull back is there. my gut says it's the cut though. these trailers get sliced out of way longer cinematic captures, and when a shot fades mid gesture the animation just stops resolving, so you get that little retract instead of a clean grab. scrub basically any rockstar trailer frame by frame and you'll find the same kind of thing at the transitions.

but here's what keeps me from fully writing it off. somebody picked that exact frame to end the whole extended look on, and they watched it a hundred times in the edit. even if the motion is an artifact, ending on an unfinished gesture from cal was a choice. and if any studio knows we sit here scrubbing every frame, it's them, they've been feeding the frame by frame crowd for years. that's the part that nags me!

if cal pulled back from a beer like that on my server someone would write a whole tragic backstory for it. probably just the cut eating the animation, but its a fun read

Yeah, this is the part that gets me. Think about what the two versions even mean. He grabs the beer, the ending reads as these two settling in, everything's easy. He pulls back and the very last note of the whole extended look becomes hesitation. That's a different scene living inside the same shot.

We did this same frame by frame ritual with the San Andreas trailer back in 04 and most of what we "found" turned out to be nothing, I'll admit that... but Rockstar noticed we never stopped looking. Leaving an unresolved gesture in the final frame is exactly the kind of thing they'd do just to watch us chew on it for two months.
