rockstar's post-hot coffee paranoia: they scrub every trace of cut content now, ex-dev says

Saw a GamesRadar piece quoting an ex-Rockstar dev about how the studio handles cut content these days. After the whole Hot Coffee fiasco, they apparently make a "huge effort" to wipe anything that isn't supposed to ship. The quote was blunt: "Having things on the disc is dangerous."

I mean, it makes sense. Hot Coffee was a disaster for them back in the San Andreas days. Hidden sex minigame left in the code, modders unlocked it, and suddenly Rockstar's in front of Congress and the game gets re-rated. They've been paranoid ever since.

What's interesting is how this explains why we don't find as many cut content leftovers in their newer games. GTA 4 and 5 still had some scraps here and there, but compared to the 3D era? Way less. And RDR2's files are notoriously clean. They're not just removing references, they're actively scrubbing anything that isn't final.

For GTA 6, this probably means we won't get those fun "what could have been" discoveries from datamining. No leftover minigames, no half-built features. It's a bummer for the community sleuths, but I get it. One stray file and the whole internet loses its mind. Rockstar's not taking any chances.

Still, I kinda miss the days when you'd find a dodo with clipped wings or a skateboard buried in the code. Now it's all business. Probably for the best, but the mystery was part of the fun.

Mostly dangerous for the quarterly earnings call. Can't blame them for scrubbing after Congress got involved. Still, a clean file system doesn't mean a cleaner game. It just means we'll never know what got axed. That's boring.

ok so i get the paranoia but think about how much tighter gta 6 probably is because of it. no half-baked mechanics cluttering the files. everything that ships is intentional. the trailers show lucia and jason in these dense locations and it's all deliberate. maybe a clean house beats finding a clipped dodo.
