PlayStation ad finally shows that trailer 2 scene without the letterbox bars
Caught this in the new It Happens On PS5 ad and had to post. There's a shot from Trailer 2 that's been driving people nuts because of the letterbox bars. PlayStation's version strips them out and drops the contrast a bit too.
That left side of the frame, the framework or whatever it is, you can actually see the tip of it now. Before it was just a dark blur behind the black bar. Now it's clear enough to make out the shape. Not a huge reveal but after all this time it's nice to get a clean look.
The floating light pole thing is still there though. I don't know if Rockstar will ever fix that or if it's just baked into the trailer. Probably not worth expecting a patch for a two year old trailer.
I'm not going to pretend this changes anything about the game. It's just a small detail from a scene we've already seen. But the fact that PlayStation used a different version of the footage in their ad is interesting. Maybe they got a higher quality master from Rockstar, or their marketing team just cropped it themselves. Either way, it's a fun little find.
If you want to compare, the original Trailer 2 upload still has the bars. The ad version is the one to look at. I'd post a side by side but I'm not about to get flagged for reuploading footage. You can find the ad on PlayStation's channel.
Anyway, just thought some of you would appreciate the cleaner frame. We're all scraping for anything at this point.

It's just a tighter crop from Sony's ad team.
The floating light pole thing is still there though.Same anomalies, same old footage. We're so starved that a recut ad passes as a reveal. Marketing loves that.
Spent more time staring at those bars than a full Cayo scope-out. That's $1.5M+ I could've bagged in the same window.
Same anomalies, same old footage.
Exactly. Sony's crop doesn't change the math. Same pole, same wait until November.
ok so โ the framework detail on the left is actually the most interesting part to me. even if it's just sony's marketing team recropping, that clean edge gives us a better look at the geometry than we've had in two years. not saying it's a reveal but it's something to chew on until august 27th rolls around.
