Dan Houser's take on physical games: 'I don't know that I care' but give people what they want

Caught the IGN interview with Dan Houser and Lazlow Jones and Dan's comments on the whole physical vs digital thing pretty much nailed how I feel. He straight up said he doesn't personally care about physical games anymore, but if people want them, companies should provide them. No corporate spin, just a guy who helped build the biggest franchise in gaming giving his honest take.

He did admit he loves physical media though, and Lazlow chimed in about how satisfying it is to pop a disc in. But Dan pointed out that digital's ability to update and fix problems has been huge for game quality. Hard to argue with that when you remember how many games shipped broken on disc back in the day and stayed that way.

The timing of this is interesting because Sony just confirmed they're killing disc support in 2028, and GTA 6's physical release is already a joke. Rockstar's selling a boxed copy but it's literally just a download code inside. No disc. So even if you buy the "physical" version, you're still downloading the whole thing. That's the world we're in now.

Dan's been out of Rockstar since 2020, working on new stuff at Absurd Ventures with Lazlow. They've got a couple open-world projects cooking, one in that sci-fi comic universe and another in their satire world. Meanwhile Sam Houser is still steering the ship for GTA 6's launch in November.

I get both sides. I've got a shelf full of old GTA boxes that I love, but I also haven't touched a disc in years. At this point I just want the game to work on day one. Are you still holding out hope for a proper disc release of GTA 6, or have you accepted the all-digital future?
