i keep wondering how rockstar will pace the map reveals in story mode
Been turning this over since the extended look. How much of Leonida are we actually going to see through story beats versus just stumbling into on our own?
The way I picture it, Rockstar will probably hold back the big spots for specific moments. Vice City and Port Gellhorn feel like places you get introduced to during a mission, maybe with another character showing you around. That first drive into the city with someone talking your ear off, that kind of thing. The question is how long those story segments stick around before the game nudges you somewhere else.
Most of us seem to think we start in the Keys. Jason living there makes sense, maybe after a prison opening that's fully scripted. From there I don't see how Rockstar stops anyone from grabbing a car, a boat, or an aircraft and just heading across the map. There's no hard gate in a GTA game for that stuff. So if I want the story to introduce areas the way it's supposed to, I'd have to hold myself back and not drive to Port Gellhorn on day one.
I've been avoiding previews and articles so I might be missing something already known. If there's info out there about map pacing, I'd rather not hear it. But I get that people skip long posts.
My guess is Rockstar leans on mission structure more than invisible walls. They'll make you want to stay in an area because the story is hot there, not because you physically can't leave. That's always been the GTA way. I'll probably still end up driving to the other side of the map within the first hour just to see what happens.
