that police cutscene in trailer 2 might be a first for Rockstar
Rewatched trailer 2 and that brief shot of the cops in the room keeps bugging me. One of them says "Us cops, we gotta protect each other" and they all look pissed. What's weird is I can't think of a single GTA cutscene where the player character isn't present or at least nearby. Like, sure, there are environmental moments, but an actual story beat? I'm drawing a blank.
It's got me wondering if Jason or Lucia is just out of frame, maybe listening in. That would feed into the whole Jason-as-a-cop theory that's been floating around. Or maybe Rockstar is trying something new with exposition, showing us scenes the protagonists wouldn't witness. Could be a way to flesh out the antagonists without having to do the whole "villain monologues while you're tied to a chair" thing.
Either way, it's a small detail but it stood out. Rockstar doesn't usually break their own rules without a reason.

Us cops, we gotta protect each other
That whole room gives me serious mood whiplash! Rockstar usually keeps you in the car with Flash FM blazing, so pulling back to a cold scene with no protagonist nearby feels like flipping to some muted talk radio station Lucia and Jason can't even tune in to yet. It's a totally different needle drop. If they're playing with off-camera beats like this, Leonida suddenly feels way bigger than just what our two see through the windshield. Giving me late-night Public Liberty Radio energy and I'm absolutely here for it!
